Speaking about social housing and rental housing projects in Istanbul, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum announced that 2,000 rental homes will be delivered in August, and that the first deliveries of the 100,000-home project will begin in 2027.

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum made assessments regarding the social housing projects being carried out in Istanbul during a live broadcast on TGRT Haber. Kurum shared the schedule for the 100,000-unit social housing project, for which the lottery will be drawn today, and the rental housing planning.

FIRST DELIVERIES WILL BEGIN IN 2027

Stating that the process regarding the project is ongoing, Kurum indicated that the first homes will begin to be delivered in March 2027. He said, "Our homes have started to be built. As we promised, we will complete the construction of 500,000 social homes in 81 provinces by 2028 and deliver them to our citizens."

“THEY WILL BE IN ACCESSIBLE LOCATIONS”

Touching upon the location of the social housing in Istanbul, Kurum said that the projects will be implemented within the city and in areas with transportation facilities. He used the expressions, "They are not in unreachable or inaccessible areas. All of them have metro access, and they have social amenities. They have schools, parks, and gardens. In other words, they are areas where all social needs can be met within walking distance."

QUOTA FOR FAMILIES OF MARTYRS AND VETERANS

Providing information regarding the quota application for families of martyrs and veterans, Kurum stated that many families who applied became eligible without being included in the lottery process. He said, "Let us give some good news here. We had quotas reserved for our martyr and veteran families in almost every province. And many of our martyr and veteran families who applied became eligible without being subject to the quota. They did not enter the lottery. Let us give the good news here for Istanbul as well. All of our martyr and veteran families who applied have become eligible."

2,000 RENTAL HOMES TO BE DELIVERED IN AUGUST

Touching upon the rental housing project to be implemented in Istanbul, Kurum announced that 2,000 homes will be delivered in the first phase in August. Stating that the homes will be located in central areas, Kurum said, "We will even provide them in Ataşehir."

Stating that a total of 15,000 rental homes are planned to be completed within three years, Kurum said, "15,000 of our citizens will reside there under favorable conditions as tenants of TOKİ, as tenants of our state, at a price below half of the market rate."

APPLICATION AND RENTAL MODEL

Making a statement regarding the segments that will benefit from the housing, Kurum said that low-income citizens and those in need would be able to apply. He also stated that a quota would be reserved for those involved in the urban transformation process.

Giving an example regarding rental prices, Kurum said, "Our families in need will apply here. Our low-income citizens. Our citizens who are truly struggling to make ends meet. And for those who have entered urban transformation, we will also reserve a quota for them. They want to transform their homes, but they cannot enter the transformation process because they cannot find a suitable home with those rental supports. We will determine those citizens by lottery, and this citizen, for example, let's say the rent there is 30,000 liras. We will calculate it at half that price, perhaps even less, and they will live in that house for 3 years under very favorable conditions with such a rental price."
