Çalık Holding protested! 'They knowingly drove workers to death and nature to destruction'
Following the disaster at the Çöpler Gold Mine, Çalık Holding was protested yesterday by an initiative called 'Children of Nature'. A group of young people gathered in front of the holding's building in Şişli, Istanbul, and expressed their reaction by saying, "They knowingly drove workers to death, nature to destruction, and the Euphrates to poison."

Erzincan's İliç district, where the Çöpler Gold Mine operated by the Anagold company is located, remains in a state of waiting for the workers trapped under the soil following the collapse. Çalık Holding, which continued its activities in the region despite a past cyanide disaster, was protested.
Young members of the initiative called Children of Nature gathered in front of the holding's building in Şişli, Istanbul, and held a press statement.
"THEY ALSO DROVE THE EUPHRATES TO POISON"
Speaking on behalf of the group, the young people criticized the government for failing to take precautions and protested the holding.
In their speech, the young people stated the following:
"A massive massacre took place at the gold mine belonging to Anagold Mining in İliç, Erzincan. As Children of Nature, we are in front of Çalık Holding, one of the local partners of this mine. It is one of the first companies that comes to mind when nature massacres are mentioned. The workers working in the mine, TMMOB, and ecology organizations knew that such a massacre could happen. Didn't the state know? Didn't the company know? They knew it perfectly well. They knowingly drove workers to death, nature to destruction, and the Euphrates to poison. The mining law in Turkey has been changed many times to the detriment of workers. No lessons were ever learned from what happened. During the ministry of IMM candidate Murat Kurum, this mine was granted capacity increase permits many times. Their tax debts were erased."
