Ahead of the Üsküdar Municipality deputy mayoral election to be held on September 5, Çelik called on citizens to gather in front of the municipality building on September 4 at 8:00 PM.
Making a statement on his social media account, Özgür Çelik said, "Three of our council members in Üsküdar are currently in custody. Four of our council members have been transferred through threats, pressure, blackmail, and offers." he stated.
Özgür Çelik's post is as follows:
WE DO NOT ACCEPT THE COUP AGAINST THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE OF ÜSKÜDAR!
Three of our council members in Üsküdar are currently in custody.
Four of our council members have been transferred through threats, pressure, blackmail, and offers.
As our Grand National Assembly of Turkey Group Deputy Chair
Murat Emir announced, the center of these pressures is a known bureaucratic clique.
A political party is attempting to seize the will of the people of Üsküdar using the power of the bureaucracy and the judiciary.
In our democratic history, we have never witnessed such organized evil, we have not been subjected to such immorality, and we have not seen political ethics violated to this extent.
From the very first day, we have fought against all these evils with all our might, and we will continue this struggle until the end.
We are issuing a call to the people of Üsküdar and to all our citizens who defend democracy and the national will.
Let us meet in front of the Üsküdar Municipality today at 8:00 PM.
Let us protect our rights and our will.
