Çankaya Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner was detained at Esenboğa Airport upon his return to the country.

As a result of operations conducted by the Financial Crimes Investigation Bureau of the Ankara Provincial Police Department under the coordination of the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, detention warrants were issued for 36 suspects, including Çankaya Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner and several municipal bureaucrats, on charges of 'establishing a criminal organization', 'membership in a criminal organization', 'bribery', 'offering bribes', and 'rigging bids'.
Searches were carried out in the morning at the Çankaya Municipality building, Güner's residence, and other designated addresses.
Police took extensive security measures around the municipal building and closed off access to the premises.
Following the searches conducted at the municipality, certain documents and digital materials were seized.
While police search operations were ongoing, former CHP Ankara Provincial Acting Chair Yüksel Işık made a statement in front of the municipality building alongside several party members.
CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE ISSUED A STATEMENT
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued a statement regarding the operation:
"It has been decided to detain a total of 36 suspects, including Çankaya Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner, and to conduct searches and seizures at their addresses on charges of establishing a criminal organization, membership in a criminal organization, bribery, offering bribes, and rigging bids; within this scope, 27 of the suspects have been taken into custody."
STATEMENT FROM GÜNER
Mayor Hüseyin Can Güner made a statement on his X account following the operation. In his statement, where he mentioned that he would be in Ankara within a few hours, Güner expressed the following:
"Dear residents of Çankaya, my dear fellow citizens; we have become aware of the operation due to the searches conducted this morning at our municipal building and the homes of our bureaucrats. As previously planned, I will be in Ankara within a few hours. I have informed all relevant authorities of this. I also provided a spare key to the teams who came to search my home and asked all our colleagues to assist our law enforcement officers. I want all our neighbors to know that since we took office, we have managed this institution in the best possible way and have not engaged in the slightest behavior that would embarrass anyone who trusts us. We will share the necessary statements with the public once the details and reasons for the investigation become clear."
