A 98-meter-long cargo ship traveling from the Bandırma district of Balıkesir to Russia experienced a mechanical failure off the coast of Umuryeri in the Bosphorus. Following this, rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the area.
After the mechanical failure, ship traffic in the Bosphorus was temporarily suspended in both directions.
STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure made the following statement regarding the development:
"The 98-meter-long general cargo ship named 'ARDA', which experienced a mechanical failure off the coast of Umuryeri in the Bosphorus while en route from Bandırma to Russia, was safely anchored at Büyükdere under the coordination of our Istanbul Vessel Traffic Services Center of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's General Directorate of Coastal Safety, accompanied by our Pilot Captain and our KURTARMA-4 and KURTARMA-6 tugboats."
