Vessel traffic in the Bosphorus has been temporarily suspended.

In a statement made on the social media account of the General Directorate of Coastal Safety, it was reported that the 229-meter-long cargo ship named ALEXIS, which was en route from Ukraine to Egypt, ran aground off the Haydarpaşa Breakwater due to an engine failure.

It was noted that the KURTARMA-6, KURTARMA-8, and KURTARMA-18 tugboats, as well as the KEGM-4 and KEGM-6 rapid rescue boats and divers from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure's General Directorate of Coastal Safety, were dispatched to the scene to assist in the rescue of the ship.

The statement also announced that vessel traffic in the strait has been temporarily suspended in both directions.
