Caught cheating in YKS: Banned for 2 years...

Isparta Police Department teams detected that a candidate had an electronic device on them during the Basic Proficiency Test (TYT), the first session of the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS) held over the weekend. The candidate, who was determined to have used an internet provider and a button camera to send questions to be solved by artificial intelligence and was arrested following the exam, will also face sanctions under Law No. 6114 on the Services of the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center.

The law includes criminal provisions for those who cheat or attempt to cheat in exams, as well as for candidates who use "joker" candidates to take exams in their place.

Accordingly, if behaviors contrary to the principles of the relevant law, regulations, or guidelines are detected through reports, camera audio and video, phone records, tips, or other means examined during or after the exam, the candidate's exam is deemed invalid. The rights granted to them through this exam or placement are revoked.

In exams conducted by ÖSYM, individuals who cheat by using devices that transmit audio or video, who mediate such cheating, who take an exam in place of another candidate (joker candidate), or who contribute to someone else taking an exam in their place, or who cheat individually or collectively, are sentenced to 1 to 4 years in prison, provided that the act does not constitute another crime requiring a heavier penalty.

The exam of a candidate found to have cheated or engaged in such acts during the exam, or in multi-session exams, the entire exam consisting of these sessions, is cancelled if it is determined that they cheated or engaged in such acts in any of the sessions.

This candidate, as well as the person who took the exam in their place, cannot apply for or take any exam or placement conducted by ÖSYM for a period of 2 years from the date of the exam.

MEASURES TAKEN BY ÖSYM

Candidates are not allowed to bring any items other than water in a transparent plastic bottle with the label removed when entering the exam.

Upon entry to the buildings where exams are held, candidates and exam officials are searched by security personnel either manually or with detectors.

The exam of any candidate found to be carrying such tools, equipment, or items inside the building where the exam is held, either before, during, or after the exam, is deemed invalid.

Exam buildings or halls can be monitored by ÖSYM using security cameras. In addition to the reports filed by exam officials, camera recordings are also used as evidence when necessary.

EXAMS CAN ALSO BE CANCELLED BY REVIEWING CAMERA FOOTAGE

Reports kept by exam building supervisors and proctors, camera recordings, and the results of security searches form the basis of the investigation processes for ÖSYM.

In suspicious cases, decisions to cancel the exam and impose a ban can be made by reviewing camera footage.

Meanwhile, proceedings are also initiated against those who take photos from the exam hall or take the exam with a phone on suspicion of cheating.
