Cause of wildfire burning for three days in Muğla identified

The forest fire in the Menteşe district of Muğla, which was determined to have been caused by power lines, has been ongoing for three days.  

INTERVENTION CONTINUES

Following reports from citizens who saw smoke rising from the forest during the fire that broke out in the Turnalı area of Menteşe district on October 18 at approximately 03:30, numerous Regional Directorate of Forestry teams were dispatched to the region. A total of 313 personnel participated in the extinguishing efforts, supported by the Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, with intervention involving 130 response vehicles, 45 fire trucks, 12 water tankers, 13 construction machines, 16 helicopters, and 8 aircraft. 

FIRE CAUSED BY POWER LINES 

The fire, which was determined to have been caused by power lines according to initial findings, could not be brought under control during two days of efforts. Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık, Acting Menteşe District Governor and Ula District Governor Mehmet Rıdvan Doğan, Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Emrullah Büyük, and Provincial Police Chief Ali Canbolat closely monitored the extinguishing efforts that continued throughout last night.

Aerial intervention with aircraft and helicopters, which was paused when it got dark yesterday, resumed with the first light of day. While the teams' work continues, Coast Guard units are ensuring that aircraft can draw water from safer areas by implementing security measures.

Finally, it was reported that the fire in Dalaman was brought under control yesterday evening. It was stated that efforts to extinguish the fire in Menteşe are ongoing.
