Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör was a guest on journalist Fatih Altaylı's YouTube channel on the anniversary of the August 17, 1999, Marmara Earthquake.

Şengör criticized AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for not inviting IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu to the earthquake meeting in Istanbul.

"THE IMM IS STRIVING, WHILE THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT IS DOING EVERYTHING IT CAN TO PREVENT IT"

Stating "This is a crime," Şengör said, "The IMM is striving to do something. The central government, on the other hand, is doing everything it can to ensure they cannot. Ekrem İmamoğlu held a magnificent meeting. He brought together the best scientists regarding earthquakes. Very good decisions were made. Two weeks later, the President held an earthquake meeting. He did not invite Ekrem İmamoğlu. You are holding an earthquake meeting in Istanbul, and you do not invite the highest-ranking elected official of the city; this is a crime."

"DON'T EVEN MENTION MURAT KURUM'S NAME..."

When Fatih Altaylı said, "You know, Murat Kurum is the Minister of Environment and Urbanization. He says the Istanbul Municipality is not doing anything," Şengör silenced Altaylı and said, "Don't even mention Murat Kurum's name. Because when you mention his name, my nerves really get frayed. After the mining disaster, this man has no right to open his mouth. You are a minister, go cooperate with the municipality, why aren't you doing it? Is Istanbul an enemy country?"
