Cem Gürdeniz makes 'neutrality' reference regarding Turkey's steps with NATO: Warning of being 'a vehicle pushed to the front line'

Retired Admiral Cem Gürdeniz evaluated the military steps Turkey is set to take with NATO and issued striking warnings about the country's future.

Gürdeniz stated that the news of a NATO Maritime Component Command to be established in Anadolu Kavağı should not be viewed as a coincidence, coming immediately after the plan for a NATO Joint Corps Headquarters in the Southeast, and noted that Turkey is increasingly losing its neutrality in this war environment. 

Retired Admiral Cem Gürdeniz shared the following regarding the dangers this would create:

"The news that a NATO Maritime Component Command will be established in the heart of the Bosphorus, in Anadolu Kavağı, came to the agenda immediately after the plan for a NATO Joint Corps Headquarters in the Southeast. 

Added to this is the intervention two days ago in the Bosphorus approach waters against a Turkish-owned tanker carrying 1,500,000 barrels of crude oil, using unmanned aerial and maritime vehicles consistent with Ukrainian tactics and techniques. 

The visit of BlackRock, one of the biggest actors in global finance, to Ankara during the same period completes the picture. 

All these developments are not independent of each other; on the contrary, they should be seen as parts of the same geopolitical pressure line.

While the Iran-US-Israel conflicts continue and Iran continues to show resistance on the ground, Turkey deploying a NATO maritime element at the entrance of the Istanbul Strait that could directly confront Russia in the Black Sea is an extremely risky step in terms of strategic balance. 

This move is of a nature that could produce not only military but also political and economic consequences.

Throughout the Russia-Ukraine War, which has been going on for over four years, Turkey had managed to pursue a balanced and neutral policy by implementing Article 19 of the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits. 

Today, the fact that a decision that could damage this balance has come to the agenda raises serious questions.

Under what conditions did Turkey take this decision? Is there intense external pressure involved? 

Or is the country being turned into a vehicle pushed to the front line in NATO's regional moves? 

More importantly; is this step opening the door to a process that will pave the way for faits accomplis by some actors, primarily Romania, and possible 'false flag' scenarios in the Black Sea?

The answer to these questions will determine not only today but also Turkey's geopolitical position in the coming period."
