While it is being discussed in political circles that Mehmet Şimşek had resigned a short while ago but was persuaded to reverse this decision, many have called for Şimşek's resignation following the sharp decline in Borsa İstanbul.
Democrat Party Deputy Chairman Cemal Enginyurt, who made a post regarding this sharp decline that caused significant losses for many citizens with investments in the stock market, pointed to Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek as responsible and stated that such a decline was not without reason.
Enginyurt cited the 'gang of five' feud as the reason for the decline and, claiming that Mehmet Şimşek had resigned, used the following expressions in his post:
"Today, Borsa İstanbul did not fall without reason.
Clearly, there is a 'gang of five' feud.
Mehmet Şimşek has resigned.
The country will be in turmoil on Monday."
STOCK MARKET STATEMENT FROM ENGİNYURT
Enginyurt, who was targeted and accused of manipulating the stock market following his resignation announcement, made a new post on his social media account, stating that the accusations against him were baseless.
Stating, "I posted the resignation message after the stock market closed," Cemal Enginyurt reiterated that he stands by his words and shared the following:
"It seems the winners are the stock market investors and a segment happy with the government's direction.
They are holding me responsible for the stock market's decline just because I said Mehmet Şimşek resigned.
I wrote about Şimşek's resignation at 20:09.
How could I have caused the stock market to fall?
Mehmet Şimşek must resign.
I stand by my word."
