Cemil Tugay breaks silence on claims he will join AKP

The AKP, which suffered a defeat in the local elections on March 31, 2024, has transferred numerous mayors since that date. The most talked-about name among these transfers was Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu.

While claims have recently surfaced in the public eye that some CHP mayors would join the AKP, it was suggested that one of these names was İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay.

Tugay put an end to these allegations. Speaking to Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk, Tugay stated, "A mayor who resigns from their party should also resign from their mayorship."
