İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay made a statement regarding the fact that the SOLOTÜRK demonstrations were not held during the 102nd-anniversary celebrations of İzmir's liberation on September 9 due to austerity measures, despite their participation in TEKNOFEST in Adana.
REACTION TO TEKNOFEST
Responding to questions from members of the press at the opening of the Balkan Folk Dance Festival, Mayor Tugay said the following regarding the issue:
"The absence of SOLOTÜRK on İzmir's liberation day was a significant shortcoming. This situation saddened us. They had used austerity measures as an excuse. Is TEKNOFEST now more important than the liberation of İzmir? It is a great shame for the people of İzmir. I condemn them for this behavior. I want them to act more sincerely toward İzmir. İzmir is a very valuable city. September 9 is also an important date for this city. We expect them to feel the value it deserves and to do what is necessary. We will be following the process to ensure this mistake is not repeated next year."
THE LATEST STATUS OF THE GULF OF İZMİR
Regarding the fish deaths in the Gulf of İzmir, Mayor Tugay said, "The Ministry said, 'We will create an emergency action plan, wait for us.' We are already doing our own work. Our rainwater separation and treatment efforts are ongoing. We are waiting for the Ministry to create a plan regarding the existing pollution and to assign us tasks. Apparently, another meeting will be held on Monday. Perhaps an announcement will be made then. But we will not wait forever. If the ministry does not take action, we will take action with our own efforts." said.
