İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay has fulfilled the promise he made during the election process regarding a reduction in bread prices. With his first directive following the holiday break, he lowered the price of Halk Ekmek products from 7 TL to 5 TL.

According to the report in BirGün, the price reduction promised before the March 31 local elections will be implemented by the Halk Ekmek Factory under the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality's Grand Plaza Gıda Turizm A.Ş., and it was stated that residents of İzmir will be able to purchase bread for 5 TL starting from Tuesday, April 16.

The statement from İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay is as follows:

“The economic difficulties experienced in our country have reduced purchasing power and put our citizens in financial distress. To alleviate these difficulties to some extent, to ease budgets, and to provide convenience to our citizens who have difficulty buying bread, which is a staple on our tables, we have lowered the prices at Halk Ekmek. The 120 thousand loaves of bread to be produced daily will be offered for sale at 5 TL at our kiosks operating in 93 locations across our city, starting with tomorrow morning's first shipments. We will overcome these difficult days together and continue to stand by our people in every matter.”
