Opposition groups in Syria have entered the capital, Damascus, ending the 54-year-long Assad regime. While the whereabouts of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad remain unknown, the opposition has taken control of many state institutions in the city.

According to local sources, looting incidents occurred at the Central Bank of Damascus. In footage reflected on social media, civilians were seen leaving the bank with bags full of items. 

The opposition also entered prisons and released detained inmates. Assad's private residence was also targeted in the attacks. While belongings in the house were looted, photographs belonging to his father, Hafez al-Assad, were thrown to the ground.
