Central Bank report on counterfeit dollars: Methods revealed

The report prepared by the Central Bank regarding the counterfeit dollar crisis, which caused currency exchange offices and banks to stop purchasing dollars, contains striking details.

According to the report by Hürriyet, it was stated that the counterfeit 50-dollar banknotes are quite similar to the originals and carry features aimed at deceiving machines. It was noted that the banknotes are clean and unworn, that the capillary fibers were imitated through printing, and that the serial numbers were produced using laser printing technology.

The Central Bank has called on all banks to exercise maximum caution against counterfeiting to ensure that citizens do not become victims and that trust in the banking system is not damaged.

The key findings in the report are as follows: 

It was determined that the paper quality of the counterfeit banknotes is of a medium level and that the blue-red capillary fibers were imitated to glow under UV light.

It was stated that magnetic features were created in the same areas as the original banknotes, aiming to deceive ATMs and money counting machines.

It was explained that the counterfeit banknotes, produced with laser and offset printing techniques, have high visual quality, but the color shift in the OVI printing remains at a medium level.

It was emphasized that the security strips, although they appear to be placed between the paper layers, do not actually carry sufficient security features under UV light.

The report includes information such as the sequence and serial numbers of a total of 232 counterfeit 50-dollar banknotes. A call was made for banks and currency exchange offices to increase measures against such counterfeiting cases.
