Chaos in Narin Güran trial: Family removed from courtroom
Tensions flared during the retrial of Nevzat Bahtiyar in the case of the murder of Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, following a reversal decision by the Court of Cassation; the Güran family was removed from the courtroom after an argument broke out between them and the defendant.

A new phase has begun in the case regarding the murder of Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21, 2024, in the Tavşantepe neighborhood of Diyarbakır's Bağlar district, and whose lifeless body was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream on September 8, 2024.
The detained defendants, mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran, had been sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing of a child in complicity." Nevzat Bahtiyar had received a 4-year and 6-month prison sentence for "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence of a crime."
FILE REOPENED BY COURT OF CASSATION DECISION
While the appellate court found the first-instance verdict to be in accordance with the law, the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation requested that the sentences be upheld.
The 1st Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation upheld the aggravated life sentences given to Yüksel, Enes, and Salim Güran. However, it overturned the 4-year and 6-month prison sentence given to Nevzat Bahtiyar, on the grounds that the act should be evaluated within the scope of "aiding in qualified intentional killing."
ARGUMENT ERUPTS IN COURT
Following the reversal decision, the retrial of Nevzat Bahtiyar began at the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court.
The defendant Bahtiyar, his lawyers, and the Güran family attended the hearing. When Bahtiyar claimed in his defense that he did not commit the murder and that Salim Güran was responsible for the incident, Narin Güran's father, Arif Güran, reacted.
As the verbal argument between the parties escalated, the court panel decided to have the Güran family removed from the courtroom.
FAMILY REACTS TO "FAIR TRIAL"
After the hearing, the Güran family argued that the trial was not being conducted fairly and alleged that Nevzat Bahtiyar was giving statements that did not reflect the truth.
