BUSINESS OWNERS ARRESTED
A restaurant operating on Atatürk Street in the Güney neighborhood of the Körfez district has come to the fore following allegations that it poisoned 648 citizens who consumed its chicken doner. According to the allegations, citizens who ate the chicken doner sought medical attention at hospitals with complaints such as nausea, vomiting, and fever. Following the incident, the owners of the restaurant, K.Y. and E.T., were detained by police teams. After their procedures at the police station, the suspects were referred to the courthouse and were arrested by the on-duty criminal judgeship of peace.
RESTAURANT SEALED AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE
According to a statement made by the Kocaeli Governor's Office, proceedings were initiated against the restaurant by the Körfez District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and food control teams due to microbiological non-compliance in the chicken doner. Following the investigation, the workplace was sealed as a precautionary measure.
While the treatment of 2 children among those who sought medical attention continues at a private hospital in the district, the other 646 people have been treated and discharged.
STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
The Kocaeli Governor's Office made a statement regarding the matter and indicated that the test results for the chicken doner were negative. The statement included the following remarks:
"As a result of the tests conducted by the Kocaeli Food Control Laboratory Directorate, it was determined that the chicken doner sample did not comply with the Turkish Food Codex Microbiological Criteria Regulation. Due to this non-compliance, a criminal complaint has been filed against the business by the Körfez District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry."
