Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announces: Document regarding the attack found on İsa Aras Mersinli's computer

Attacks on schools in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, occurring just one day apart, have dominated Turkey's agenda.

In Şanlıurfa, 16 people were injured, while in Kahramanmaraş, 9 people were killed and 13 others were injured.

The Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the General Directorate of Security have issued statements regarding the ongoing investigation.

83 PEOPLE IN CUSTODY, 93 TELEGRAM GROUPS SHUT DOWN

The General Directorate of Security (EGM) reported that 83 people have been taken into custody following the incident, access to 940 social media accounts has been blocked, and 93 Telegram groups have been shut down.

The statement issued by the General Directorate of Security is as follows:

"Within the scope of the efforts carried out regarding the school attacks in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, detention orders have been issued for 83 individuals identified as having engaged in posts and activities that praise crime and criminals and aim to negatively affect public order, and judicial proceedings have been initiated against them.

Furthermore, access to 940 social media accounts has been blocked, and 93 Telegram groups have been closed.

Judicial processes regarding the suspects are being conducted in a multifaceted manner by our relevant units. Respectfully announced to the public."

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that examinations of the personal computer and digital materials belonging to the perpetrator, İsa Aras Mersinli, revealed a document dated April 11 indicating that he was planning to carry out a major act in the near future.

The statement included the following: "Examinations of the digital materials revealed a document dated April 11, 2026, on the computer of the perpetrator who carried out the school attack, indicating that he was planning to carry out a major act in the near future." the statement read.

The statement from the Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is as follows:

"An armed attack was carried out on the Ayser Çalık Secondary School, located in the Haydarbey neighborhood of the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş, on April 15, 2026, at approximately 13:30. Upon reports of deaths and injuries among students and teachers, our Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an ex officio investigation into the incident.

Three Deputy Chief Public Prosecutors and 10 Public Prosecutors have been assigned to conduct the investigation.

It has been determined that as a result of the perpetrator's actions, a total of 9 of our citizens, including one teacher and eight students, lost their lives, and thirteen students were injured, six of whom remain in critical condition. The perpetrator was found dead at the scene.

Post-mortem examinations and autopsies of our deceased citizens have been completed, and their bodies have been handed over to their families for burial.

Five pistols used by the perpetrator at the scene were seized, and criminal investigations were conducted on the weapons in question. Upon the determination that the pistols were registered to the perpetrator's father, Police Chief Inspector Uğur Mersinli, the suspect Uğur Mersinli was taken into custody and, following his statement, was referred to the Duty Magistrate's Court with a request for arrest.

Following the decision of the Duty Magistrate's Court to arrest the suspect Uğur Mersinli, he was transferred to a penal institution.

During the search of the perpetrator's home, his personal computer, mobile phone, and other digital materials were seized. Examinations of these digital materials revealed a document dated April 11, 2026, on the perpetrator's computer indicating that he was planning to carry out a major act in the near future.

Based on current evidence, no connection to any terrorist organization has been identified, and the preliminary conclusion is that the act was carried out by the perpetrator individually.

Despite the previously issued publication ban regarding the incident, necessary judicial proceedings have been initiated against accounts making provocative posts. The investigation is continuing in all its aspects and is being deepened to examine digital platforms that attempt to direct our children toward negative actions.

At this stage, it is important not to rely on posts other than those made by official and authorized bodies regarding the ongoing investigation.

The investigation into the incident is being conducted meticulously in all its dimensions."
