The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has sent an informative letter to the Istanbul Governor's Office regarding the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan, and Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık by the criminal judgeship of peace as part of a "corruption" and "terrorism" investigation into the İBB.
REASONS FOR ARREST REPORTED
In the letter sent by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to the Istanbul Governor's Office, it was noted that İBB Mayor İmamoğlu was arrested by the Istanbul 10th Criminal Judgeship of Peace on the grounds of strong suspicion of committing the crimes of "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes," "unlawfully recording personal data," "taking bribes," and "rigging public tenders."
The letter stated that the request for İmamoğlu's arrest on the charge of "aiding an armed terrorist organization" was rejected by the same judgeship on the grounds that there was no need for an arrest measure at this stage.
The letter pointed out that Şişli Mayor Şahan was arrested on the grounds of strong suspicion of committing the crime of "aiding an armed terrorist organization," while Beylikdüzü Mayor Çalık was arrested by the Istanbul 6th Criminal Judgeship of Peace on the grounds of strong suspicion of committing the crimes of "being a member of an organization established for the purpose of committing crimes" and "extortion."
