Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issues statement on plane crash that killed Libyan delegation

The investigation continues into the crash of the plane carrying a delegation, including the Libyan Chief of General Staff, which went down in the Haymana region shortly after taking off from Ankara Esenboğa Airport on December 23, 2025.

In a statement issued by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was emphasized that the judicial process initiated following the accident is still ongoing. Within the scope of the international dimension of the investigation, it was reported that a meeting was held with a prosecutor and two assistant prosecutors from the Libyan Public Prosecutor's Office, and that information exchange took place within the framework of international agreements and bilateral relations.

The statement also noted that the accident investigation report, which will reveal the details of the crash, has not yet been added to the file, but that investigative procedures are being carried out meticulously and from various angles.

The statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is as follows:

'Regarding the incident on December 23, 2025, in which the plane carrying the Libyan Chief of General Staff and his accompanying delegation, which took off from Ankara Esenboğa Airport at 20:17 local time, disappeared from radar at 20:38 local time and crashed in Haymana, a meeting was held with 1 prosecutor and 2 assistant prosecutors involved in the investigation conducted by the Libyan Public Prosecutor's Office within the scope of the investigation carried out by our Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Information was shared within the framework of international agreements and bilateral relations, and the stages reached in the investigations were mutually evaluated.

The accident investigation report has not yet been submitted to the investigation file, and investigative procedures are continuing in a multi-faceted and meticulous manner.'
