Children who posted photos with firearms taken into custody

In Istanbul, two children aged 15 and 16 who shared photos of themselves with firearms on social media have been taken into custody by law enforcement.

Istanbul Police Department teams are continuing their efforts to apprehend suspects who commit the crime of “intentionally endangering public safety” in images shared on social media platforms.

In this context, an investigation was launched into an individual who posted content with a firearm on their social media account. During the investigation, it was determined that the photos and videos belonged to a minor identified as M.A.A. (15), residing in the Muratçeşme neighborhood of Büyükçekmece, and an operation was conducted at the address.

During interviews with the individual taken into custody, it was learned that the firearms belonged to an individual named M.İ., who is the father of the suspect's friend. Police teams apprehended and took M.İ. into custody along with 2 licensed firearms.

In further investigations, an individual named A.A. (16), who fired shots into the air from a car and shared the footage on social media, was also apprehended and taken into custody along with a blank-firing pistol.

Regarding the incident, judicial proceedings were initiated against the minor M.A.A. for violating the “6136 SKM” (Law on Firearms and Knives), while the individual named M.İ. was released by judicial authorities after providing a statement.

The licensed firearms were seized for necessary examinations, while judicial proceedings were initiated against the minor A.A. (16) for the crimes of “intentionally endangering public safety” and violating the “6136 SKM.”
