Chilling murder in Beyoğlu: Killed with a pen

22-year-old Derviş Karadağ, who killed Engin Yalçın by stabbing him with a pen after Yalçın threw a bottle at a vehicle belonging to his workplace in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, has been arrested and sent to prison. A murder that took place in Beyoğlu Tarlabaşı on November 10, 2023, was chilling.

43-year-old Engin Yalçın, who was drinking alcohol with his friends in the morning, threw an empty bottle at a vehicle belonging to a pastry shop under the influence of alcohol.

Derviş Karadağ (22), an employee at the shop who saw this, went over to Yalçın after learning he had thrown the bottle.

Karadağ stabbed Yalçın, who was sitting on the sidewalk, in the temple and forehead with a pen.

HE STOOD UP AND COLLAPSED

According to footage recorded moment by moment by security cameras, Engin Yalçın stood up and collapsed a short while later. Yalçın was taken to Taksim Training and Research Hospital by an ambulance that arrived at the scene.

Teams from the Beyoğlu District Police Department detained Derviş Karadağ, whom they identified from the camera footage.

HE WAS RELEASED BUT...

Derviş Karadağ, who was detained on the day of the incident and referred to court for the crime of 'Intentional injury,' was released under judicial control.

HE WAS ARRESTED

Following the death of Engin Yalçın, Derviş Karadağ was detained again at his home in Gaziosmanpaşa.

Karadağ was referred to court, arrested, and sent to prison.

Engin Yalçın, who was learned to have a police record for 16 offenses, was laid to rest following his funeral prayer at the Yenibosna Cemevi.
