Chilling testimony emerges: 'When I couldn't reach Engin Polat, I targeted his relative'

The police statement of 23-year-old suspect Serhat Altun, who was taken into custody in connection with the armed attack in Çeşme that resulted in the death of Can Polat, has emerged. The statements reflected in the investigation file contain notable details regarding the period before and after the attack.

CAN POLAT LOST HIS LIFE IN AN ARMED ATTACK

37-year-old Can Polat, who was stated to be the bodyguard and driver for social media influencer Dilan Polat and was also a cousin of Engin Polat, lost his life as a result of an armed attack he was subjected to in Çeşme.

Within the scope of the work initiated following the incident, a total of three people, including 23-year-old Serhat Altun, who is alleged to have carried out the attack, were taken into custody.

ALLEGATION OF RECONNAISSANCE BEFORE THE ATTACK

According to information obtained within the scope of the investigation, it was determined that Serhat Altun was in the vicinity of the hotel for a long time before the attack.

It was assessed that Altun spent time in the surrounding businesses as a customer before the incident, observing the area and conducting reconnaissance on the target.

STRIKING CLAIMS IN POLICE STATEMENT

According to the report in the Sabah newspaper, Serhat Altun claimed in his statement to the police that he established contact via Instagram with the criminal organization known as the "Daltons."

Stating that he was in need of money, Altun alleged that he was given various tasks after communicating with members of the organization.

"I CARRIED OUT AN ACTION IN KONYA, I RECEIVED 100 THOUSAND LIRA"

In his statement, Altun claimed that he carried out an action in Konya under the direction of a person codenamed "Orhan Keleş" from the organization, and said that he received 100 thousand lira in return for this job.

Stating that he later moved to Istanbul, the suspect alleged that Engin Polat was shown to him as a new target there.

In his statement, Altun claimed that the places where Engin Polat was located were under heavy security measures and that he could not carry out the planned attack for this reason.

Stating that he saw from social media posts that Dilan Polat was in Çeşme, the suspect said that he then came to İzmir.

In his statement, Altun reported that he informed the person he claimed was the organization leader that Engin Polat was not going out, and alleged that he was then given the instruction, "Don't return empty-handed, shoot one of his relatives."
