Chow Chow dog mauls owner's leg! Tissue loss occurred

In Adana, a Chow Chow named Tina had a jealousy fit after seeing her owner petting a Pomeranian named Linda, and mauled her owner's leg.

In Adana, a Chow Chow dog named Tina became jealous of a Pomeranian named Linda in the house and mauled her owner's leg. It was learned that the young woman suffered tissue loss in her leg and may recover through a tissue graft.

The incident occurred on the night of March 25 in the Gürselpaşa neighborhood of the central Seyhan district. Allegedly, Ş.Ö. (42), who had been keeping a Chow Chow named Tina for 4 years, had adopted another dog, a Pomeranian named Linda, 2 years ago. It is alleged that the dogs, Linda and Tina, belonging to Ş.Ö., who also has 2 other dogs at home, could never get along.

As Ş.Ö. was about to go to bed, she petted her dog named Linda. However, at that moment, Tina attacked her owner's left leg and tore off the skin. Hearing the young woman's screams, her son A.T. (18) rescued his mother and called an ambulance. Medical teams arrived at the house and took the young woman to the Adana City Training and Research Hospital. After initial treatment there, the young woman was transferred to a private hospital.

The young woman, who stayed in the hospital for 10 days, had her leg put in a cast due to tissue loss in her left leg and was discharged with the decision to undergo a tissue graft 1 month later.

Afraid to go near her dog, Ş.Ö. went to her summer house in Mersin. Not wanting to give her dog to a shelter, the young woman made an agreement with a private animal farm. It was learned that Ş.Ö. will return to her home once Tina goes to the farm in the coming weeks.

Ş.Ö. described the horror she experienced. Explaining that Chow Chow dogs are jealous, Ş.Ö. said, "I never expected such a thing from my dog that I have been feeding for 4 years. It was obvious that she was jealous of Linda. She had bared her teeth at me a few months ago, but I never expected her to do something like this. Still, my heart does not allow me to give her to a shelter. My son is looking after her right now. I will go to her at the farm when I recover. Everyone should be careful with this breed. These types of dogs should be kept alone. They cannot get along with another animal nearby."

Nihat Köse, President of the Adana Chamber of Veterinarians, explained that Chow Chow dogs are very powerful animals. Köse stated, "If you keep a dog, there is always a possibility of encountering such situations. Such things can happen due to the nature of dogs. The Chow Chow is a strong dog. At the same time, it is a bit asocial. It adopts one person in the family it is in and gets jealous of the person it adopts. Training Chow Chows is difficult; you cannot train this breed with punishment; they are animals trained with rewards and love. Chow Chows are powerful animals used as guard dogs in China and Mongolia."

Pointing out that Chow Chow dogs are asocial, Nihat Köse said, "These types of dogs are not very playful, social animals; they are jealous and have an instinct to protect their owners. If possible, it is necessary not to keep another animal in the house and to train them correctly. The Chow Chow is already a very furry animal. It is not a suitable animal for the Mediterranean climate or hot regions. Therefore, I do not think it is very appropriate to adopt a Chow Chow in this region. Dog psychology has become very important in the world and now in our country. Veterinarians play an important role here. It is very important to raise your dog by getting direct information about its training, not just its health and vaccinations, since the dog was a puppy."
