CHP announces condition for participation in 'Terror-Free Turkey' commission: Mr. Özel stated it clearly

CHP Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesperson Deniz Yücel made a statement regarding the Terror-Free Turkey commission. Stating that it is their most natural right to demand democracy in the operation of the commission to be established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) in line with the goal of a "Terror-Free Turkey," Yücel said, "Therefore, let an official statement be made that decisions in the commission will be taken with equal representation or a qualified majority, and we will join the commission."

The CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) met at the party headquarters under the chairmanship of Chairman Özgür Özel.

Holding a press conference while the MYK meeting was ongoing, Yücel criticized the government over the forest fires continuing in various cities of Turkey.

Arguing that sufficient precautions against forest fires have not been taken, Yücel stated, "Many countries in the world intervene in fires with aircraft that have high water-dropping capacity and with formulas that prevent the rapid evaporation of water after it is dropped. In our country, however, the budget allocated to protect forests is not allowed to be used."

"OF COURSE WE WILL JOIN, BUT..."

Conveying that the issue of whether the CHP will determine members for the commission to be established in the TBMM within the scope of "Terror-Free Turkey" efforts was on the MYK agenda, Yücel said, "As the CHP, there is no way we would not join a commission we proposed ourselves. The nation assigns deputies to work. Of course, we will join. But we will not be part of a process where they say, 'We will determine the name, we will make decisions with the quorum we want.' Our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel, clearly stated that decisions regarding the commission must be taken either with equal representation or a qualified majority."

Expressing that they expect the commission to make decisions that will provide effective and positive contributions to Turkey, Yücel noted the following:

"Demanding democracy in the operation of this commission is our most natural right. Therefore, let an official statement be made that decisions in the commission will be taken with equal representation or a qualified majority, and we will join the commission. The CHP is the insurance for all segments harmed by terrorism, especially the families of martyrs and veterans, in that commission. Where the CHP is present, the unitary state is not up for debate. Where the CHP is present, constitutional amendment is not up for debate. If the CHP is in that commission, no one should be afraid. In fact, the risk is the absence of the CHP in that commission. The CHP will serve as a supervisory and objection body regarding the commission and certain concerns that everyone has heard. However, let us also underline this: 'Democracy in Diyarbakır, autocracy in Istanbul' or 'Peace in the East, war in Istanbul... The new enemy is the CHP.' We will not allow such an approach, nor will we be part of such a game."

"IT IS ABOUT PRINCIPLES AND VALUES"

When asked by a member of the press which members would represent the CHP in the commission, CHP Spokesperson Yücel stated the following:

"What is important for us is not who will serve in the commission, but the principles and values. We have a commission that has been working for a long time under the name of the Democracy and Justice Commission. There may be those who will participate from among our colleagues serving in that commission, or there may be those who will participate from outside. What is important for us right now is the commission's mode of operation, representation ratio, and decision-making process. If the CHP's sensitivities on this issue are addressed, we have many qualified colleagues who will serve in the commission. Their assignments will be made in one way or another."
