Regarding the appellate court's decision to uphold the 2-year, 7-month, and 15-day prison sentence, which includes a political ban, for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in the case publicly known as the "fool case," CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır stated, "Today, the appellate decision, which also includes a political ban, has arrived.
But the process is not over; the path to the Court of Cassation is open. The decision rendered today is not a court ruling, but a note left for history.
The nation made its decision in its conscience before the court did," he assessed.
The 2-year, 7-month, and 15-day prison sentence, which includes a political ban, for CHP's presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu—who was arrested in the March 19 operation—in the case publicly known as the "fool case," has been upheld by the appellate court.
Reacting to the decision in a statement made via his social media account, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır made the following assessment:
"The real foolishness is trying to defeat opponents in courtrooms instead of winning elections with the will of the nation.
The appellate court upheld the 2-year, 7-month, and 15-day prison sentence in the "fool" case where İmamoğlu was tried, which had been pending for over 2.5 years. A decision was reached rapidly in 2022 by changing the judge.
Today, the appellate decision, which also includes a political ban, has arrived.
But the process is not over; the path to the Court of Cassation is open. The decision rendered today is not a court ruling, but a note left for history. The nation made its decision in its conscience before the court did. When the ballot box arrives, everyone will hear their own verdict!"
