CHP candidate wins with support from the People's Alliance: Etimesgut Municipality acting mayor elected

The municipal council convened today to elect an acting mayor following the arrest and suspension of CHP's Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu.

In the election, CHP candidate Seda Dilber, who had trailed in the first two rounds, was elected acting mayor of Etimesgut with the support of council members from the People's Alliance.

In the first round of voting, YENİ Party candidate Mehmet Özdemir received 18 votes, while CHP candidate Seda Dilber received 11 votes; 6 members cast blank ballots and 6 members abstained.

The same results were obtained in the second round of voting.

PEOPLE'S ALLIANCE SUPPORTED THE CHP CANDIDATE

The members of the People's Alliance, who did not vote for either candidate in the first two rounds, supported the CHP candidate in the third round. In the third round, CHP candidate Seda Dilber received 22 votes, while YENİ Party candidate Mehmet Özdemir received 19 votes.

In the final round, 41 votes were cast. CHP candidate Seda Dilber received 21 votes, while YENİ Party candidate Mehmet Özdemir received 19 votes. One vote was declared invalid.

Thus, CHP candidate Seda Dilber became the acting mayor of Etimesgut with the support of council members from the People's Alliance.

The Municipal Council consists of 17 members from the YENİ Party, 11 from the CHP, and a total of 12 from the People's Alliance.

WHAT HAPPENED?

An operation was conducted against Etimesgut Municipality by the Ankara Western Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on the morning of Thursday, July 30. As part of the operation, 55 people, including Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu and deputy mayors, were detained.

40 people, including Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu, were arrested, and 4 people were released under judicial control.

The Ministry of Interior announced on August 3 that Mayor Beşikçioğlu had been suspended from duty as a temporary measure.
