CHP Chair Özgür Özel addressed citizens during his party's parliamentary group meeting and called for a protest. When the clock struck 9 PM, images of flickering lights came in from many parts of Turkey.

In his speech at the group meeting, Özel said, "We invite Turkey to stand up," and called for a light-flickering protest at 9 PM today to demand increases in the minimum wage and pension payments.

Özel stated, "We are calling out to all of Turkey from here. Stand up tonight at 9 o'clock.

If you want a raise for pensioners and the minimum wage; if you want fair prices for tea, wheat, apricots, hazelnuts, grapes, and citrus fruits, we are starting at 9 o'clock tonight. Turn your lights on, turn your lights off," he said.

Following the call by CHP Chair Özgür Özel, citizens who wanted to show their reaction to the country's economic situation turned their lights on and off at 9 PM.
