Özel shared a post on his social media account regarding TRT entering its 61st year. In his post, Özel stated, "TRT is 61 years old. How happy! We are not celebrating. We are reminding: TRT belongs to the nation. Happy are those who remember!"
In his post, Özel criticized TRT's broadcasting policy. Stating that the bill for TRT is paid by 86 million people, Özel said that TRT has been turned into an operation channel for a single political party.
The full text of Özel's post is as follows:
"Our TRT has been on air for 61 years.
I would have loved to start this way.
They have turned this deep-rooted institution, which should be conducting public broadcasting with the nation's money, into an operation channel for a political party today.
The broadcast is single-voiced; yet the bill for that screen is charged to all of us. 86 million pay the bill, but TRT works for the benefit of one person.
TRT is 61 years old. How happy!
We are not celebrating. We are reminding: TRT belongs to the nation. Happy are those who remember!
On this occasion, I celebrate the May 1st Labor Day of TRT workers, and I entrust those who close that screen to the nation while opening it to lies and slanders to our nation, to be remembered one day."
TRT’miz 61 yıldır yayında.

Böyle başlayabilmeyi çok isterdim.
Milletin parasıyla kamu yayıncılığı yapması gereken bu köklü kurumu, bugün bir siyasi partinin operasyon kanalına dönüştürdüler.
Yayın tek ses; ama o ekranın faturası hepimize kesiliyor. Faturayı 86 milyon ödüyor…
