CHP Chairman Özel announces: Mayor Zeyrek brought back to life after 70 minutes of CPR

Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek, who suffered an electric shock while attempting to fix a malfunction in the motor of his pool at his home in the Güzelyurt neighborhood of Manisa's Yunusemre district, had his heart restarted after approximately 70 minutes of CPR and has been taken into intensive care. 

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and Manisa Provincial Health Director Op. Dr. Fatih Zeren, who arrived at the hospital, made statements regarding Mayor Zeyrek's condition.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel said, "Around 11:35 PM tonight, Mayor Ferdi was intervening in a malfunction in the pool motor, which we suspect had an electrical leak, and he was electrocuted due to the current in the water. First, a sound was heard, his family ran over, quickly turned off the circuit breaker, and called 112. The ambulance arrived within 5-6 minutes. 

They performed CPR on his heart, which had stopped. They performed CPR there for minutes and then brought him here. Since proper CPR and artificial respiration were performed from the moment the ambulance arrived, we hope that oxygen reached his brain, and except for the first 6-7 minutes of the 70-minute intervention, we hope oxygen was reaching his brain. After 70 minutes, his pulse, which had been coming and going, returned and his heart began to beat. Currently, his heart is beating quite well and is working without support. Actually, what is incredible is that his heart started working after 70 minutes. 

Whether any damage has occurred to our brother Ferdi's brain functions will be determined later. We all love our brother, our child, our elder Ferdi very much. We are in a state of great shock. We lost him for a moment. We hope to find him back. We are all going through very difficult minutes together. My request to you is that this is a hospital. He is not the only patient here. There are many intensive care patients here. There are many patients who need to sleep, who should not be woken up, who should not be agitated. Therefore, the noises raised here or the reactions you show to make your voices heard, even if well-intentioned, could affect the health of other patients. It could also affect Ferdi's health. Ferdi and all the patients need only one thing. They need calm and prayer.

Today between 5:30 AM and 9:30 AM, we were at the Hatuniye Mosque with Mayor Ferdi. We were at the cemetery, at the martyrs' memorial. Later, we were at the sacrificial slaughter area. Then we both bought our sacrifices and went to our homes. Something that shouldn't have happened happened to Ferdi. But we know that he is the most humane, the most beautiful person in the world, a very faithful, clean family man; he will hold on to life with your good intentions and your prayers. My request to all of you is to think about both the other patients in this hospital and Mayor Ferdi.

Your presence here is very valuable, but please let us be quiet. Especially let's not show unusual reactions and raise our voices. This creates agitation. It disturbs Ferdi and it disturbs other patients. My only request from you is to pray for our brother, for our child, and be quiet. We will provide information as there are changes in his condition from time to time. I believe in this. It was an incredible turnaround. A heart doesn't just start working after 70 minutes like that. An incredible turnaround has occurred. A greater one will happen. We will reunite with our brother Ferdi. He will reunite with the Manisa he loves so much. He loves you all. You love him. My request to all of you is to wait with calm, with calm, without making things difficult, and by praying," he said.

Manisa Provincial Health Director Op. Dr. Fatih Zeren said in his statement, "At around 11:30 PM, a report was received at the 112 Command and Control Center stating that Mayor Ferdi was involved. It was a report about an electric shock. Our teams reached the scene 8 minutes later. Interventions were started by our team with a doctor. It was observed that the patient was unconscious.

After that, he was brought to our hospital by our 112 teams accompanied by CPR. Our patient was taken into intensive care with the initial interventions performed at our hospital. His necessary treatment continues in intensive care. However, his critical condition persists.
