U.S. Federal District Judge for Vermont William K. Sessions, after hearing from both sides in a hearing that lasted approximately 3 hours, decided that Öztürk, who had been held in custody in the state of Louisiana for about 6 weeks, should be released on bail.

The judge, who heard from 4 witnesses speaking in her favor, including her doctoral advisor, also cited the Turkish student's asthma as a necessity for her release.

CHP Chairman Özel shared a post following the decision regarding Rümeysa and used the following expressions:

The release of doctoral student Rümeysa Öztürk, who has been held in custody for 45 days for writing an article supporting the Palestinian cause in the U.S., has brought joy to us all.

This result is a victory for the conscientious voices rising for justice in Turkey and around the world.

However, unfortunately, Mr. Erdoğan's voice was not among those voices.

Erdoğan, who sent Pastor Brunson away overnight when his "partner" Trump requested it, could not demand the freedom of his own citizen.

We know that the power that silences Erdoğan regarding Rümeysa is the same power that keeps him silent regarding the disregard of the TRNC and Trump's plan to empty Gaza.

This silence is surrender!

We will continue to defend our own children, the existence of the TRNC, and the Palestinian cause.
