CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated, "The place for Ahmet Özer, who has authored dozens of books on ending conflict processes and ensuring our social peace, and whose opinions the government has sought many times before, is not prison. A transition to trial without detention must be made as soon as possible; Ahmet Özer should both return to his post and be able to contribute to the establishment of our social peace."
In a statement made on his X account, Özel included the following remarks:
"We are in the midst of an injustice unprecedented in history! 300 days have passed since the Esenyurt conspiracy, the first leg of a coup process initiated by an instrumentalized judiciary dating back to March 19.
The elected mayor of Turkey's largest district, scientist Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer, has been imprisoned for 300 days. A trustee has been governing Esenyurt for 300 days. Ahmet Özer was released from the so-called 'terrorism' case, but a trustee is still serving in the municipality.
In the investigation for which he is imprisoned, an indictment has been awaited for 8 months. It is a complete process of trial without judgment! The place for Ahmet Özer, who has authored dozens of books on ending conflict processes and ensuring our social peace, and whose opinions the government has sought many times before, is not prison.
A transition to trial without detention must be made as soon as possible; Ahmet Özer should both return to his post and be able to contribute to the establishment of our social peace."
