CHP decides not to participate in Court of Accounts elections in Parliament: 'We do not deem it appropriate'

In the election to be held this evening at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, 5 vacant memberships at the Court of Accounts will be filled from among 10 candidates determined by the Planning and Budget Committee.

İsmail Cengiz Erek, Mehmet Avcı, Necati Küçükaydın, Eşref Edip Çiçekli, Ertan Erüz, Muammer Çolak, Yusuf Gezbeli, Coşkun Çekiciler, İsmail Çobanoğlu, and Adnan Güran were the names nominated in the committee for the 5 vacant memberships at the Court of Accounts.

In a statement made at the General Assembly, Başarır described the election as "lacking merit" and stated that the CHP group would leave the General Assembly. Başarır spoke as follows:

"We are talking about an institution with a total of 59 members. The Court of Accounts is an institution that audits state expenditures on behalf of this country. It is a 3-stage election, and the ruling party is very effective in all three.

At the Court of Accounts stage, all 59 members are names close to the AKP.

It is the same in the Planning and Budget Committee, and it will be the same in Parliament.

We only asked for one thing in the Committee:

We said let's hold interviews for these 5 members. They didn't even see the need for that. We do not deem it appropriate to participate in an election conducted with such a lack of merit."
