The CHP Istanbul Provincial organization has launched a 'Democracy and Freedom March' in response to the government's trustee policies.
Numerous citizens gathered in Şişli in front of the Atatürk Museum before the march toward the Şişli Municipality, where a trustee was appointed to replace CHP's Resul Emrah Şahan.
It has been learned that the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency plans to continue the 'Democracy and Freedom Marches' in different districts of the city in the coming period.
Here is what happened during the march...
CITIZENS GATHERED TO DEFEND THEIR WILL
Citizens who gathered in front of the Atatürk Museum began their march.
Carrying a banner that read, "A city restaurant is not enough, we will take back Şişli," the citizens declared, "We are marching for our usurped rights. We are marching because they have seized the will of the people of Şişli. We are protecting our votes."
"THE EXPECTATION IS THE IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF THIS TRUSTEE FARCE, WHICH IS A USURPATION OF THE PEOPLE'S WILL"
Ahmet Özer, the Mayor of Esenyurt, who like Şahan had a trustee appointed in his place, also supported the march of citizens defending their will.
According to Gülnur Saydam from Cumhuriyet newspaper, Özer made statements there, drawing attention to the change of the Şişli trustee, and said the following:
"Today we learned that a trustee has been appointed for the Şişli trustee... It is something we are seeing for the first time. As a mayor who has faced the same fate, I came to show our feelings of solidarity with the people of Şişli and the municipality of Mr. Resul Emrah Şahan. Our people's expectation is the immediate removal of this trustee farce, which is a usurpation of the people's will."
