CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın and CHP deputies held a press conference following the adjournment of the General Assembly session at the TBMM.made a statement.CHP's Günaydın stated the following:
“Today is Wednesday, January 7, 2016, and the time is21:45. The Grand National Assembly of Turkey,by the AKP Groupcannot beoperated. Bothyesterday and today, the AKP could notsecure a quorum, soParliament closed. So, what is Parliament busy with? Parliament is busy with the Traffic Law. Undoubtedly, for traffic regulations, variousprovisions are beingThere is a necessity for the introduction of various laws. However, instead of a Parliamentoccupiedwith increasing traffic fines, this nation and thiscountryneed a Parliament that focuses on the real problemsof the people.
We have more than 16.5 million retirees. 5 million 200 thousand public We have retirees, and their pensions are, by law, determined based on the inflation rate set by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) for the preceding six-month period.TÜIK announced on Monday,January 5, 2026, that the Decemberinflation rate was 0.89 percentand announced the 6-monthinflation rate, retroactively,as 5.85 percent. For civil servants, thewhen the actualwage increase is also evaluated together, thismeant a salary increase of around 18.61percent. For more than 4 million of our citizens who receive the lowestpensionamongSSK and BAĞ-KURretirees,while they tried to condemnour country and our people to a12.61 percent raise rate, which allows for a mere257 TL increase on apension that consists of 16,881 TL.
This is unacceptable. In a country where poverty iswhile the limit has reached 98 thousand liras, thehunger threshold has hit 30 thousand TL, condemning the most valuable people of this country, who have served the country for yearsand reached a certain age, ourelders to hunger is contrary to human dignity and is trulya betrayal of the citizenscan only be possible by not valuing thepeople. As the Republican People's Party Group, we are standing tall.Today, our Chairmanannounced at a rally in Beykoz.Heis in Istanbul, and we are in Ankara, shoutingto all of Turkey.we are shouting: We will not allow pensioners to be condemned to poverty and hunger-level wages! We will not allow it! We will not allow the minimum wage to be raised to 39 thousand liras and the lowestpension paymentslevel, and we have previously submitted ourlegislative proposals to raise it to that level. We stand behind our legislative proposals. Until the ruling party bringsa regulation regarding this to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, we will not leavethe Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Our citizens should rest assured that the Republican People's Party is everyday, every moment, and always by the side of its citizens, its retirees, and its laborers.will continue to stand by the worker and the entire nation. While they live in luxury, they condemn the citizens to thehungerthreshold. It is not possible for the mentality thatdoes this to receive a passing grade from us.We will make Parliament a difficult place for them and we willensure that they definitely bring thisregulation. We willwith these thoughts, in the darkness of the night, we join the voice of our Chairman rising from Beykoz as members of parliament in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, and we say enough is enough! This cruelty you are inflicting on retireesWe say let everything stop, and let the necessary regulations come to Parliament.
Tomorrow, with the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, we will bring our relevant proposal to the agenda once againand we will continue our protest of not leaving the Parliament.we will. I would also like to state that this action is not solely an action of the Republican People's Party. Tomorrow, wewill discussthis issue withallparty groups andmakeevery effortto ensure this turns into a joint action.it. Because this is not only the struggle of the Republican People's Party, but must be the common struggle of everyone and all political views who care about their country, their nation, their retirees, and their workers, it must be.Thank you all.We thank you, and from here, we extend our greetings, respect, and wishes of solidarity to all our fellow citizens. Thank you, long live.”
