CHP deputies react to barriers at Çağlayan Courthouse: 'Measures not taken for the terrorist leader...'

Republican People's Party (CHP) deputies expressed their reactions to the security measures taken at Çağlayan Courthouse. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and 90 others, who were detained as part of two separate investigations launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, were referred to the courthouse. CHP deputies criticized the barriers erected inside and around the courthouse building and the presence of armed special forces.

CHP Istanbul Deputy Cemal Enginyurt made the following statement:

''There are special forces and barriers inside the courthouse. Hey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan; if you had placed these barriers and these shields on the border, then all these invaders—Syrians, Afghans, Iraqis, Pakistanis—would not have entered this country. Hey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan; you are placing these in front of deputies, you are taking away the deputies' right to meet with their friends. You are taking away the right to greet Ekrem İmamoğlu. You are taking away the right to greet mayors.''

'THE FEAR OF ONE WHO BETRAYS THEIR PEOPLE'

CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy Hasan Öztürkmen targeted the AKP and Erdoğan, stating, 'The fear of one who betrays their people. We have left the courthouse; they have placed the entire area under siege. Lawyers cannot enter, deputies cannot enter. Why so much fear?'

According to the report by SZC TV, CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy Mahmut Tanal emphasized that security measures were taken at the courthouse that were not taken for the terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan, and stated the following:

''Armed special forces are inside the courthouse. If a trial is conducted in the shadow of weapons, justice flees from there. How can a prosecutor or judge who sees these armed forces, or law enforcement officers under the influence of the executive branch, give a fair decision in the shadow of weapons? How can there be an impartial judiciary? I am a deputy for Şanlıurfa, I am at the zero point of Turkey. The border there is like a sieve; terrorists come and go. Instead of building walls with these special forces here, ensure the security of our border. Security measures that were not taken for a terrorist leader have been taken inside and outside the courthouse. This is disproportionate, excessive, and a crime is being committed. Abandon this war law.''

While intense security measures were taken around the courthouse, it was stated that lawyers and deputies were not allowed to enter the building. The CHP deputies demanded the impartiality of the judicial process and the ensuring of justice.
