CHP's Barut's 'coffin protest' scares AKP members: Warning comes from Bekir Bozdağ

CHP's Barut received a warning from Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Bekir Bozdağ when he wanted to take a coffin model with the words 'AKP killed agriculture and the farmer' written on it to the podium during the ongoing budget negotiations in the TBMM General Assembly to draw attention to the problems faced by farmers. 

"I DIDN'T THINK YOU WOULD BE THIS SCARED OR UNEASY"

Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Bekir Bozdağ issued a warning, saying, "You cannot bring such an object to the parliamentary podium. You cannot speak at this podium with this object; Article 65 of the Rules of Procedure is very clear, and it is also an act that requires a censure penalty according to Article 160. Please put it down. If you do not put it down, I will have to impose a disciplinary penalty on you."

Barut, who wanted to protest to draw attention to the problems faced by farmers, gave the model to CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır upon Bozdağ's warning.

Starting his speech by saying, "It was a very innocent act. I didn't think you would be this scared or uneasy," Barut said the following:

"WE WILL GO HUNGRY, HUNGRY"

"Hey AKP government, our farmers, who are the masters of the nation and whose hands should be kissed, have died because of you. What were you saying? If anyone can do it, the AK Party can. Yes, you did it; you killed the farmer, you put them in a coffin alive, come on to the funeral prayer. What were you saying? It was a dream, it became reality; yes, in your government, this also became reality. You ruined the farmer's livelihood, you made them cry; what is your problem with the farmer? If the farmer doesn't plant, if they don't produce, we will go hungry, hungry.

While agriculture is supported all over the world, in our country, instead of support, obstacles are placed in front of agriculture. Now, many government deputies, especially the Minister, will object to these words of mine. They will say that you are using agriculture as a tool for politics.

When has talking about the realities of agriculture become politics? You want us not to talk about anything. Then come, let us throw the facts in your face with numbers.

There is a mandatory provision in Article 21 of the Agriculture Law enacted in 2006. It states that the support to be allocated to agriculture cannot be less than 1% of the national income. Since the 2025 national income is projected to be 61.5 trillion, the support to be allocated should be 615 billion.

So how much are you giving? Only 135 billion TL. That is 0.22%. It also corresponds to 0.91% of the budget. The farmer is owed 418 billion by you.

So, as you say at every opportunity, is Europe jealous of us? The European Union provides approximately 55 billion euros in support to agriculture, which is 32% of its 172 billion euro budget."
