Alarming earthquake warning from CHP's Erol: It will be felt as magnitude 10 in Tunceli
A delegation of 23 members of parliament, led by CHP Elazığ Deputy Gürsel Erol, has arrived in Tunceli to conduct investigations and hold meetings regarding earthquake preparedness. Deputy Erol stated that in a presentation given to them by seismologist Naci Görür, it was noted that a potential 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Bingöl could be felt as a magnitude 10 in some neighborhoods of Tunceli city center.

A working group consisting of 23 members of parliament, led by CHP Elazığ Deputy Gürsel Erol, is holding meetings to prepare a report on potential earthquake preparedness in Elazığ and Tunceli.
After visiting Elazığ, the delegation arrived in Tunceli and, following a visit to Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu, met with representatives of non-governmental organizations and citizens at the Hüseyin Güntaş Cultural Center in Moğultay neighborhood.
In his speech, CHP Elazığ Deputy Gürsel Erol said, "Before coming here, we invited Professor Naci Görür to Ankara. He briefed our delegation on the potential Bingöl earthquake. I don't want to go into too much detail, but our hair stood on end during his presentation. We are located between four fault lines. The impact of a potential earthquake on some parts of Tunceli will be much more severe.
If the Bingöl earthquake is 7.4, it will be felt as a magnitude 10 in many neighborhoods of Tunceli city center. And in such an earthquake, there is a risk that not a single stone will be left standing. There is a huge risk in the area where the ground is poor and waterlogged. But we will not leave Tunceli alone in this process. As a delegation, we will meet with ministries, bureaucrats, and, if necessary, the President regarding Tunceli. We will prevent deaths and debris in Tunceli. We will say, 'Do not come here to offer condolences after the earthquake happens; bring services to Tunceli,'" he said.
Noting that they held a series of meetings in Ankara with Tunceli Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu regarding the city's preparation for an earthquake, Erol said, "We went to the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. Demands regarding the municipality, such as garbage trucks, payments, land swaps, the construction of a new municipal building, and urban transformation, were conveyed. The Minister gave instructions on this matter. In the first phase, the tender order for 375 village houses was issued.
The village houses here will be built of reinforced concrete rather than prefabricated structures due to climate conditions. Instructions were given for the immediate construction of 280 apartments as part of urban transformation. Projects such as a new municipal building, a reserve area, and a city square will follow. In other words, work will be carried out both to strengthen the city against earthquakes and to give it a new vision," he said.
Reminding that Tunceli Governor Bülent Tekbıyıkoğlu has been carrying out important work on earthquake preparedness, Deputy Gürsel Erol noted that they, as the CHP group, are also taking responsibility to ensure that the earthquake does not turn into a disaster and to make the city earthquake-resistant.
Following the speeches, the delegation members answered questions from representatives of non-governmental organizations, professional associations, and citizens.
