CHP's Torun: AKP-run municipality is conducting illegal mining

An allegation has emerged that illegal mining activities are being carried out in the AKP-run Ulubey Municipality in Ordu.

Republican People's Party (CHP) Ordu Deputy Seyit Torun claimed that the AKP-run municipality began excavation work on forest land located next to a football field in the Karakoca neighborhood, the center of the Ulubey district, but that illegal mining activities are actually being conducted in the area.

Torun stated, "Excavation begins under the pretext of building a recreational area, and bentonite loaded into trucks under the guise of excavation waste is being transported to a cat litter factory in Fatsa. When the Mayor of Ulubey is asked about what is happening, he claims that a sports hall will be built on the site in question. However, no application has been made to the metropolitan municipality for the construction of a sports hall, and no project has been prepared for a sports hall. The excavation is not being transported by municipal vehicles, but by trucks belonging to the cat litter factory. Furthermore, there is already an indoor sports hall in that area. We have photos and video footage of these operations, all of which are irregular and illegal."

The CHP deputy further added, "We have submitted a parliamentary question to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change regarding the matter. At the same time, we want to raise our voices from here: a major urban crime is being committed in Ulubey. The Ulubey Municipality is conducting illegal mining under the guise of excavation. The Ulubey Municipality is openly carrying out an unregistered commercial activity in the heart of the city. Intervene immediately before this wound opened in the heart of Ulubey becomes irreparable. We are watching you closely. Turn back from this mistake; the municipality is not your father's junkyard."
