CHP files application with Council of State against new curriculum

A delegation led by Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Chairman Suat Özçağdaş has filed an application with the Council of State regarding the 'Turkey Century Education Model,' which passed the approval process of the Board of Education.

CHP's Özçağdaş stated that there are very significant problems with the curriculum, saying, "When you name it the 'Turkey Century Education Model,' as the Minister himself admits, 'Turkey Century' is the election slogan of a political party. This politicizes a very fundamental document from the very beginning, one that involves 20 million students, more than 1 million teachers, and almost every family in Turkey. Furthermore, 'maarif' (education) is not a word any of us use. All political parties in Turkey, people from all political views, we now use the word 'eğitim' (education). The preference for this word, a word that is not in use, actually shows how ideologically the issue is being viewed. We understand that the primary goal here is an attack on secular education from the very start. No needs analysis has been conducted to form the basis of this model. The proposed education model is not based on any educational theory or any philosophy of education. It consists of a dual structure where political text and course curricula are mixed together. Although it is claimed to be simplified, there is much more conceptual confusion. It is a country's right to know who prepared such an important text. It should be this way. Ultimately, you are designing the future of the country. These are 20 million students and the young children coming up behind them. We need to know who prepared the model being prepared for them. The model contains concepts such as bravery, gallantry, and honesty. It is said that these are very important. However, it is not clear who wrote them. There is ghostwriting. No one knows who prepared these texts. In fact, the goal is clear; the Minister, following his own path with ideological obsessions starting from his time as undersecretary and now in his ministry, by following certain cult and sect leaders, wants to both change Turkey's curriculum and design the education program accordingly," he said.

Following the statement, the CHP members submitted the petition for the cancellation lawsuit and the request for a stay of execution to the Council of State.
