CHP heads to extraordinary convention

The CHP has made a critical decision following developments in Istanbul. After more than 900 delegates provided their signatures, the party applied to the Çankaya District Election Board to hold an extraordinary convention.

With the signatures of 900 delegates, the CHP is heading to a convention in 15 days, on September 21.

CONGRESS TO BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 21

The CHP applied to the Çankaya District Election Board to hold an extraordinary convention after more than 900 delegates provided their signatures. The convention will be held on September 21.

According to the application submitted to the Çankaya District Election Board with the signature of Chairman Özgür Özel and the signatures of nearly 1,000 delegates, the convention will convene on Sunday, September 21, with an agenda including a vote of confidence in the current administration and elections for the Chairman and the Party Assembly (PM).

'THIS DECISION IS PROOF THAT WE ARE STANDING TALL AGAINST INTERVENTION ATTEMPTS'

CHP Deputy Chairman for Election and Party Legal Affairs Gül Çiftci made a statement on the matter:

“Despite the siege against our party, we will hold our extraordinary convention on September 21, 2025, with the signatures of our delegates. Throughout its 102-year deep-rooted history, the Republican People's Party has defended the will of the people despite all kinds of pressure, obstruction, and intervention; it has never compromised on democracy, the rule of law, and freedoms.

This extraordinary convention will not only reveal the future of our party but also reaffirm the belief in polyphony, pluralism, and democratic politics in Turkey. This decision, taken with the will of our delegates, is the strongest proof that the Republican People's Party stands tall against all intervention attempts by the government.”
