Expressing his reaction with extremely harsh language, Özgür Özel stated the following:
"With the decision regarding the arrest of Zafer Party Chairman Mr. Ümit Özdağ, justice has once again been murdered by a mobile guillotine.
Arresting the chairman of a political party on the grounds of social media posts from 5 years ago is a murder of both democracy and judicial independence.
Arresting a party chairman is the work of coup plotters.
Keeping one's counterpart in prison is the work of cowards.
Having one's opponent arrested is the work of the incompetent.
We will fight this lawless regime with courage, and we will change this order at the first ballot box."
