WHAT HAPPENED ON MARCH 3?
Three of the revolutions led by Atatürk were put into effect.
The Caliphate was abolished, the Law on Unification of Education (Tevhid-i Tedrisat Kanunu) was adopted, and the Ministry of Sharia and Foundations (Şeriye ve Evkaf Vekaletleri) was abolished.
This step is also seen as the first move toward a secular state.
