The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that Mertcan Üreten, a CHP Municipal Council Member for Yunusemre in Manisa, has been detained following his social media post supporting Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu after an investigation was launched against him.

The repercussions of the investigation launched against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu due to his remarks regarding Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek continue.
Following the initiation of investigations against those who shared posts regarding the investigation opened into İmamoğlu, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued a statement on the matter.
In the statement, it was reported that CHP Manisa Yunusemre Municipal Council Member Mertcan Üreten had been detained.
The statement included the following remarks:
"Following the ex officio investigation launched against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu for the crimes of 'threatening' and 'targeting individuals tasked with counter-terrorism' due to his remarks in a program he attended that were deemed threatening toward Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Mr. Akın Gürlek and his family, CHP Manisa Yunusemre Municipal Council Member Mertcan ÜRETEN, who made similar posts on Twitter and similar platforms, has been detained."
