Gaziantep Şehitkamil Mayor Umut Yılmaz has announced his resignation from the Republican People's Party (CHP). Yılmaz, who reached a vote share of 39.67 percent in the March 31 Local Elections, had surpassed his AKP rival Muhammet Rıdvan Fadıloğlu by a margin of approximately 50 thousand votes. Thus, the CHP had regained the Şehitkamil Municipality after 30 years.

Recently, Yılmaz's silence during the process regarding the potential imprisonment of IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu caused intense criticism on social media and drew backlash among citizens.

HIS WORDS RESONATED ON SOCIAL MEDIA

On the other hand, the words Umut Yılmaz had previously used for Karkamış Mayor Mustafa Güzel, who resigned from the CHP and joined the AKP about 5 months ago, saying, "You must stand tall not only in politics but also in life. You will not bend or buckle," have become a topic of discussion on social media once again.

HE WILL HOLD A PRESS CONFERENCE

Umut Yılmaz announced that he will hold a press conference today (April 8) regarding the developments. According to information obtained from within the party, it is stated that there have been various disagreements between Yılmaz and the CHP Headquarters.
