Sinop Mayor Metin Gürbüz has announced that the claims circulating on social media regarding his alleged "switch to the AKP" are completely baseless.
Gürbüz, who has initiated legal proceedings against those spreading these claims, used strong language during a press statement he made in front of the Sinop Courthouse.
“WE ARE FACING A SYSTEMATIC ATTACK”
Gürbüz said, “In recent days, we have witnessed attempts to spread misleading, false, and slanderous information on personal social media accounts. At the same time, I encountered reports on some national television channels claiming that I would change my party and join the AK Party. While these are not actually worth taking seriously, they are still committing a crime. We see that there is a dirty, insidious plan and a systematic attack underway, aimed at misleading the public through their open and personal accounts, and at severing our dialogue with our citizens.”
“THE PRODUCT OF A DIRTY ALLIANCE”
Mayor Gürbüz alleged that certain groups who have long wanted to benefit from municipal resources have formed a “dirty alliance” after their interests were not met, and stated the following:
“We are facing a systematic attack from a dirty alliance of people who have long unofficially profited from the resources of the people of Sinop and, consequently, the Sinop Municipality, and who now see that their personal interests and expectations will no longer be met. I ran as a Republican People's Party (CHP) mayor. Our citizens voted for us because we were the Republican People's Party candidates.”
“I WILL NOT BETRAY THE HONEST VOTES OF THE PEOPLE OF SINOP”
“I will not take any action that would cause the slightest harm to their honest votes. Since we took office on April 3, following the March 31 elections, we set out to serve all our citizens equally and fairly, regardless of whether they voted for us or went to the polls. Our journey on this path will continue,” said Gürbüz, emphasizing that the Sinop Municipality budget will be used solely for the benefit of the city's residents.
“LEGAL PROCESS INITIATED”
Stating that he has taken action against the allegations of a systematic attack, Gürbüz continued with these words:
“I have filed a criminal complaint because they have committed the crime of publicly spreading misleading information to the public in the face of this systematic attack. I request that this person or these persons be identified, investigated, and researched, that a public lawsuit be filed against them, and that they be punished within the framework of the relevant articles of the Turkish Penal Code. I am the mayor of the people of Sinop.”
“WE ARE SOLDIERS OF THE CHP”
Reiterating his loyalty to his party, Gürbüz said, “I came to office with the honest votes of the people of Sinop. I ran as a candidate from our Republican People's Party, and our citizens voted for me as the candidate of the Republican People's Party. I will never betray my party, the people of Sinop, my citizens, or my voters. Even though there are those who betray, those who turn back from their path, or those who seek protection under others, we are under the protection of the Republic of Turkey. We are soldiers of the Republic of Turkey and the Republican People's Party entrusted to us by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. We will continue to fight for this cause and serve our citizens.”
