Journalist Levent Gültekin had alleged that Murat Bakan, the CHP Deputy Chairman responsible for the Ministry of Interior, had applied to the ministry with the request, "I am the Shadow Minister of Interior, assign me a protection army."

"THEY ARE ALL PLAYING HOUSE"

Gültekin stated the following in a program on his YouTube channel:

"The CHP has a shadow Minister of Interior, Murat Bakan. Do you know what he says? 'I am the shadow Minister of Interior, assign me a protection army.' And he tells this himself in İzmir. They are all playing house; playing party leader, playing politician."

STATEMENT FROM MURAT BAKAN

Following Gültekin's claim, a statement came from CHP's Murat Bakan.

Confirming the request for protection, Bakan stated that he did not go to the Ministry of Interior and make an application saying, "I am the Shadow Minister of Interior, assign me a protection army."

Bakan said that he only requested one protection officer from the İzmir Governor's Office following a warning from intelligence sources that he was "under high risk."

In a statement made on his social media account, Murat Bakan noted the following:

"It has become necessary to correct an incorrect and unfair comment.

I have not made an application to the Ministry of Interior saying, 'I am the Shadow Minister of Interior, assign me a protection army.'

Within the framework of unofficial information that reached us from intelligence sources, as it was stated that I was under high risk, and upon the warnings of all the police officers I consulted on the matter that I should take this information seriously, I made an application for 'one close protection' to the İzmir Governor's Office on July 30, 2024, and that application has not yet been concluded."
