CHP's Mahmut Tanal brings the Nusayri massacre in Syria to the agenda of the Turkish Parliament

Attacks by jihadist HTS groups against Nusayris in Latakia, located in northwestern Syria, are continuing. CHP Şanlıurfa MP Mahmut Tanal submitted a parliamentary research motion to the Speaker of the Parliament regarding the ongoing attacks.

Along with Tanal, 22 other CHP MPs signed the motion. The deputies also applied to the Presidency of the Human Rights Investigation Commission of the Turkish Parliament, requesting an “on-site investigation.”

The justification for the research motion stated the following:

“It is necessary for the Turkish Grand National Assembly to establish a research commission to investigate the massacre incident in the region in all its aspects, to collect independent and reliable information by cooperating with international human rights organizations and diplomatic sources, for Turkey to take action to stop these massacres by making effective initiatives on international platforms, to develop proposals for the protection of victims and the punishment of perpetrators within the framework of international law, and to prepare a comprehensive report on what kind of roadmap Turkey should follow in this humanitarian crisis. It is essential for the Turkish Parliament to take action regarding the attacks targeting Alawite civilians in various regions of Syria and the human rights violations.”
