Diyanet President Ali Erbaş, while attending an event, stated, "Are there not people who have forgotten they came from the Balkans... whose hair stands on end when they hear 'Arab, Arabic'? Racism is forbidden in our religion."

CHP Bursa MP Hasan Öztürk, who is himself a Balkan immigrant, reacted to these words from Ali Erbaş.

"HE PRIORITIZES THE MIDDLE EAST OVER TURKEY..."

Stating that he had listened to Erbaş's words multiple times, Öztürk said, "As far as I understand, Ali Erbaş is not very happy about being the Diyanet President of the Republic of Turkey. It is clear that he prioritizes the Middle East over Turkey and the Balkans."

"THANK GOD I AM TURKISH"

Stating that Erbaş does not know history any more than he knows Arabic, Öztürk noted the following:

"Let me give him some information. Balkan Turks, who say 'Thank God I am Turkish,' defended the homeland not only against Christians but also against Muslim Arabs. Balkan Turks are the founding core elements of our War of Independence and the Republic of Turkey, who made both the Balkans and Rumelia a Turkish and Muslim land, conquered Anatolia, defended the 200-year-old homeland territory during the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, paid the heaviest prices, were massacred, and experienced death and exile."
